While we didn’t live blog our  Siemens Industry Software analyst a few weeks ago, I did capture a few interviews with some of the speakers that I wanted to share with you. With lots happening right now with the Solid Edge ST3 launch yesterday and PLM Connection Europe next week, I’ll share the interviews with you over the next couple of weeks. Here’s the first installment.

At the event, Dr. Uli Sutor from Deckel Maho Gildemeister (DMG) spoke about “human spare parts.”

DMG has been making machine tools for a long time but more recently diversified their business into new markets. Uli spoke specifically to their entry into the medical industry. He noted the medical market’s 10% growth rate driven by aging baby boomers. The medical implant market should continue that growth because implants typically last 10-15 years and then need to be replaced. Thus the need for human spare parts.

Uli spoke about DMG’s complete process change that integrates Siemens technology. He noted DMG is focused on taking advantage of new materials and increased productivity with technology such as our NX CAM and high-tech manufacturing with SINUMERIK controllers. It’s interesting to see scans feeding a CNC program via CAM software for everything from dental applications to knee implants.
